MLB: Houston 6, Washington 5

HOUSTON, May 6 (UPI) -- Lance Berkman went 5-for-5 and scored the deciding run on Carlos Lee's two-run double in the eighth inning Tuesday in Houston's 6-5 win over Washington.

After Austin Kearns hit a solo homer to give Washington a one-run lead in the top of the eighth, Luis Ayala failed to hold the lead after two outs. Miguel Tejada and Berkman singled before Lee, drove the ball passed a diving Kearns in right to drive in the tying and winning runs.


Berkman had two doubles, three singles, four runs scored and an RBI, while Lee had three hits and three RBI in Houston's fourth straight win.

Doug Brocail (2-0) got the win despite allowing Kearns' home run. Starter Shawn Chacon worked seven innings, giving up four runs on eight hits and four walks, while striking out eight.

Aaron Boone and Nick Johnson had solo homers for the Nationals, who Ayala (1-2) was charged with the loss.
