NBA: New Orleans 101, San Antonio 82

NEW ORLEANS, May 4 (UPI) -- David West scored 30 points Saturday night and the New Orleans Hornets beat San Antonio 101-82 in Game 1 of their Western Conference semifinal series.

The Hornets defense limited Tim Duncan to just five points on one field goal in nine tries -- a career playoff-worst for the Spurs big man. Duncan also was limited to three rebounds.

Peja Stojakovic scored 22 points and Chris Paul had 17 points and 13 assists for New Orleans, which also got 10 points, 15 rebounds and three blocked shots from Tyson Chandler.

The Hornets out-rebounded the defending NBA champion Spurs by 50-34 and held San Antonio to just 33 points in the second half.

Tony Parker led San Antonio with 23 points. Manu Ginobili scored 19 points and Bruce Bowen had 17.

Game 2 is set for Monday in New Orleans.

The game was delayed for 19 minutes because the floor needed extensive cleanup from a stunt between the first and second quarters, in which the Hornets' mascot jumped through a ring of fire to dunk a basketball.
