Wild forward recovering from hip surgery

ST. PAUL, Minn., May 3 (UPI) -- Minnesota Wild forward Marian Gaborik will be hospitalized two weeks after undergoing "minor" arthroscopic surgery on his right hip.

The procedure, done Friday at the Steadman Hawkins Clinic in Vail, Colo., came after the high-scoring native of Czechoslovakia played in pain for an appreciable period, including the NHL playoffs.

His injury was confirmed during a post-season examination and consultation with team doctors.

He told the Star Tribune the hip began hurting last summer.

Also, in late October into November, he missed five of seven games because of a groin injury.

"(Gaborik) had this pinching feeling in his hip for pretty well the whole year," General Manager Doug Risebrough told the Minneapolis newspaper. "It hadn't prevented him from playing and playing very well. But we, and him specifically, really wanted to pursue options of getting relief from it."

Gaborik was the Wild's leading scorer with 83 points in 77 regular season games (42 goals, 41 assists).
