MLB: Washington 9, Pittsburgh 8

WASHINGTON, May 3 (UPI) -- Cristian Guzman drove in six runs Saturday, allowing Washington to edge Pittsburgh 9-8.

His hot bat proved to be the difference after Xavier Nady's two-run double in the top of the eighth inning drew Pittsburgh within the final score.

Guzman hit a two-run homer in the first, an RBI single in the second and a three-run double in the sixth.

Three others had one RBI, three had two hits and Felipe Lopez scored three times for the Nationals, who have won five of their last six games.

The winner was closer Jesus Colome (1-1). Closer Jon Rauch earned his seventh save.

Pittsburgh got three hits and three RBI each from Nady and Jose Bautista. One of Bautista's hits was a solo homer in the fourth.

Adam LaRoche and Ronny Paulino both had one RBI and three players had two hits for the Pirates, who have lost two of three.

The losing pitcher was Paul Maholm (2-3).
