Garrido has course record in Spain tourney

SEVILLE, Spain, May 2 (UPI) -- Ignacio Garrido shot a course-record 9-under-par 63 Friday and moved into the lead halfway through the European PGA Tour's Open de Espana in Seville, Spain.

Garrido, playing in his home country, is at 15-under 129 after 36 holes of the tournament and had a 4-stroke lead over first-round leader Martin Erlandsson, who shot 68 Friday and is at 11-under 133 for the tournament. Peter Fowler, David Lynn, Carlos Rodiles and Marco Ruiz are tied for third at 8-under 136.

Garrido, playing the back nine first Friday, opened with a birdie at No. 10 and ran off three straight birdies from 12-14. He went to 5-under on the day with a birdie at No. 16.

After a string of pars, Garrido had birdies at 2 and 3. He added a birdie at No. 6 with an iron shot from the rough that ended up 1 foot from the hole. He closed with a tap-in birdie at the par 5 ninth hole.

"It's a dream to play so well in front of my home fans at my national Open," said Garrido. "Other than the majors, this is the one tournament all Spaniards want to win."
