MLB: Texas 2, Kansas City 1

ARLINGTON, Texas, May 1 (UPI) -- A solo home run by Ramon Vazquez in the bottom of the sixth inning Thursday gave the Texas Rangers a 2-1 win over Kansas City.

Vazquez's first round-tripper this season broke a 1-1 tie with one out.

Ian Kinsler hit a solo shot in the second to produce Texas' other run.

Vazquez had two of the five hits for the Rangers, who have won four of their last six games following a seven-game losing streak.

Winner Sidney Ponson (1-0) allowed only an earned run and six hits in eight innings with two walks and five strikeouts.

Closer C.J. Wilson recorded his sixth save this season.

Kansas City got its run on Mark Grudzielanek's two-out single in the third. David DeJesus had two of the six hits for the Royals, who have lost three of four.

Losing pitcher Zack Greinke (3-1) gave up two earned runs and four hits in seven innings with no walks and nine strikeouts.
