MLB: St. Louis 5, Cincinnati 2

ST. LOUIS, April 30 (UPI) -- Led by Rick Ankiel's three hits and two RBI Wednesday, St. Louis downed Cincinnati 5-2.

Ankiel hit RBI singles in the bottom of the third and seventh innings, giving him 16 RBI.

Aaron Miles also drove in two runs, had two hits and scored twice and Chris Duncan scored a run on Aaron Harang's second-inning wild pitch for the Cardinals, who won two games in the three-game series.

St. Louis finished April with 18 victories, a franchise record for the opening month of a season.

Winner Braden Looper (4-1) surrendered two earned runs and four hits in six innings while closer Jason Isringhausen, the last of four relievers, recorded his ninth save.

Cincinnati's Ryan Freel and Edwin Encarnacion both drove in one run.

Freel had three hits and Adam Dunn two for the Reds, whose two straight losses follow a three-game winning streak.

Harang (1-4) was the losing pitcher.
