NHL: Dallas 3, San Jose 2 (OT)

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 26 (UPI) -- Dallas captain Brenden Morrow scored on a slapshot 4:39 into overtime Friday, giving the Stars a 3-2 win over San Jose in their conference semifinal opener.

The Sharks, who survived a seven-game series in the quarterfinals with Calgary, grabbed some momentum by tying the game with 3:02 remaining in regulation on a wrist shot by Jonathan Cheechoo. But Morrow scored his fifth playoff goal, rocketing a shot past Evgeni Nabokov, who let in three goals on 18 shots.

Milan Michalek gave San Jose a 1-0 lead 4:50 into the second period, but Mike Modano and Morrow scored in a span of 3:03 later in the stanza to put the Stars in front.

Modano's goal came on the power play after Devin Setoguchi was called for hooking.

Game 2 is set for Sunday in San Jose.
