LOS ANGELES, April 26 (UPI) -- Russell Martin drove in the winning run on a 13th inning fly, boosting the Los Angeles Dodgers to an 8-7 win over the Colorado Rockies in Los Angeles.
Martin drove in two runs for the Dodgers, who have won two of their last three contests.
"The only time I didn't reach base was when I drove in the winning run, which is okay," Martin said. "We've lost a couple of close games, so it was time we won one like this."
Third baseman Nomar Garciaparra suffered a calf injury on the play and was replaced by Martin, making his first major league appearance at the hot corner.
The game lasted 4 hours, 38 minutes. Chan Ho Park (1-0) got the win for Los Angeles; Takashi Saito took the loss for the Rockies.
