MOSCOW, April 25 (UPI) -- Russia, featuring a pair of top-six players in Svetlana Kuznetsova and Anna Chakvetadze, is host to a U.S. team this weekend in a Federation Cup semifinal.
Chakvetadze, ranked No. 6 in the world, is scheduled to open the best-of-five series Saturday against Vania King, ranked 115th, on a clay court in Moscow. The second singles match pits the third-ranked Kuznetsova against Ahsha Rolle, ranked 145th.
The singles matches reverse for Sunday, with Kuznetsova going against King and Chakvetadze meeting Rolle.
The United States and Russia have met six times previously in Fed Cup play with the Americans owning a 4-2 series advantage. However, the Russians won a semifinal last year in Stowe, Vt., en route to winning their third Federation Cup championship in four years.
The winner of the U.S.-Russia semifinal meets the survivor of a best-of-five between Spain and China in September for the 2008 title.
