It was Cheruiyot's fourth Boston title overall, tying him with Bill Rodgers, Clarence DeMar and Gerard Cote for most wins in the race. Cheruiyot's 2008 time was the sixth-fastest in the 112 years the Boston Marathon has been contested and 31 seconds off his own course record set in 2006. He also won in 2003 and 2007.

Abderrahime Bouramdane was second in 2:09:04, while Khalid El Boumlili was third at 2:10:35. Both runners are from Morocco.

Cheruiyot broke out of a four-man pack of leaders at about the 18-mile mark and was ahead by 30 seconds at the 23-mile mark.

His pace slowed some in the last third of the race -- about 90 minutes into the race officials said he was on a pace that would have knocked about 2 minutes off his record -- but even when he began to slow, Cheruiyot's lead was insurmountable and he won easily.

Colts' Keith arrested outside nightclub

INDIANAPOLIS, April 21 (UPI) -- Indianapolis Colts running back Kenton Keith was arrested outside a nightclub on charges that include public intoxication, police said Monday.

Keith, 27, was arrested early Sunday after he and others refused orders to leave the area, officers said.

Other charges against the player, who is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, include disorderly conduct, resisting police officers and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, WRTV, Indianapolis reported.

"Any incident involving any players with law enforcement we view very seriously, and we will act accordingly," a Colts statement said.

A police report said Keith, who rushed for 533 yards for the Colts last season, was in a large group gathered in the nightclub's parking lot after the establishment had closed for the night.

Several people, allegedly including Keith, danced and yelled in the parking lot and refused warnings to leave the area, a police officer said.

Keith told officers he "would not be quiet" and kept "hollering he was a Colts player," the police report said.

Police said Keith, who was later released from custody after posting $1,000 bond, allegedly admitted to helping an underage 19-year-old enter the club, WRTV reported.
