MLB: Minnesota 3, Cleveland 0

MINNEAPOLIS, April 19 (UPI) -- Nick Blackburn and two relievers combined on an eight-hit shutout Saturday to guide the Minnesota Twins to a 3-0 win over the Cleveland Indians.

The winners grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Justin Morneau stroked a two-run homer, his fifth round-tripper this season. Carlos Gomez hit an RBI single in the second inning.

Morneau and Craig Monroe had two hits apiece for the Twins, who had lost two in a row.

Blackburn (1-1) surrendered the eight hits in 7 2/3 innings with no walks and one strikeout.

Dennys Reyes retired the only batter he faced in the eighth and Joe Nathan worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to register his sixth save this season.

Asdrubal Cabrera and Ryan Garko both had two hits for the Indians, whose two-game win streak ended.

Losing pitcher Jake Westbrook (1-2) gave up three earned runs and eight hits in seven innings.
