MLB: Florida 6, Atlanta 5

MIAMI, April 16 (UPI) -- Luis Gonzalez hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer Wednesday and Florida held on to defeat Atlanta 6-5.

Gonzalez's shot in the seventh gave the Marlins a three-run lead. After Atlanta closed within a run in the eighth, Kevin Gregg came on to retire the Braves in order in the ninth for his third save.

Mark Hendrickson (3-1) picked up the win by giving up three runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings. Hanley Ramirez had two hits and two RBI and Mike Jacobs had a solo homer in the Marlins' sixth win in eight games.

Atlanta has lost three in a row. Tim Hudson (2-1) allowed four runs on six hits in three innings.

Florida has been atop the National League East for 10 days, its longest such run in four seasons.

The home run for Gonzalez was the 348th of his career, tying him with George Foster for 78th on the all-time list.
