NHL: Calgary 4, San Jose 3

CALGARY, Alberta, April 14 (UPI) -- Owen Nolan's third-period goal lifted Calgary past San Jose 4-3 Sunday, putting the Flames up 2-1 in their Western Conference quarterfinal series.

Nolan's goal, with 3:45 left to play, was the finishing touch on a comeback that saw the Flames climb out of a 3-0 hole -- after the Sharks scored three times in the game's first four minutes.

Alex Tanguay came out from behind the net and fed Nolan with a pass to the left side that Nolan slammed back toward the net. Sharks goalie Evgeni Nabokov was screened and had no chance to keep the puck out of the goal.

Nolan also had two assists against his former team. Jarome Iginla and Dion Phaneuf had a goal and assist apiece, and Daymond Langkow scored one goal.

The Flames lifted goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff after he allowed the flurry of first-period goals. Curtis Joseph shut out the Sharks from there, turning away all 22 shots he faced.
