NHL: Montreal 3, Toronto 1

MONTREAL, April 5 (UPI) -- Second-period goals by Mark Streit and Christopher Huggins Saturday led the Montreal Canadiens to a 3-1 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

After a scoreless first period, Streit's 13th goal this season gave Montreal a 1-0 lead and the winners never trailed. Huggins' 26th goal this season made it 2-0 at 14:03 of the second, and then he scored his 27th (power play) at 7:29 of the third.

Netminder Carey Price stopped 26 of 27 shots for the Canadiens, whose 104 points are good for the first spot in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

Toronto's only goal was scored by Mark Bell at 18:02 of the second.

Andrew Raycroft was beaten three times on 36 shots for the Maple Leafs, who will miss the playoffs a third straight season after their 83 points put them 12th overall in the Eastern Conference.

It is the first time in franchise history that the Leafs have missed the playoffs three straight seasons.
