NHL: Buffalo 3, Boston 0

BOSTON, April 5 (UPI) -- Jocelyn Thibault registered his second shutout this season Saturday when the Buffalo Sabres downed the Boston Bruins 3-0.

Left wing Thomas Vanek scored all three goals, two on the power play in the second period and one into an empty net late in the third.

Derek Roy had two assists and Thibault stopped just 17 shots for the Sabres, who won three of their final four games this season.

They are the first team to win the Presidents' Trophy one season and miss the playoffs the next since the Rangers sat out the post-season in 1992-93.

The Bruins locked up a trip to the post-season Friday, their first since 2004.
