NHL: Nashville 3, St. Louis 2

NASHVILLE, April 3 (UPI) -- J.P. Dumont had a goal and an assist Thursday, helping move the Nashville Predators to the brink of a playoff berth with a 3-2 win over St. Louis.

Another point for Nashville or a loss by Vancouver, which was in action Thursday against Edmonton, would clinch the eighth and final post-season berth in the Western Conference for the Predators.

Nashville also moved within one point of Calgary for seventh place.

Greg De Vries and Jerred Smithson also scored for the Predators and Jan Hlavac had three assists. Dan Ellis stopped 27 of 29 shots.

St. Louis lost its third straight and has dropped six out of seven.

If Nashville finishes eighth in the conference, the Predators will take on Detroit in the first round of the playoffs.
