MARTINSVILLE, Va., March 29 (UPI) -- Michael Waltrip has denied a claim that he took a sway bar from Roush-Fenway Racing after a 2007 race in Dover, Del.
Jack Roush claimed this week that Waltrip "swiped" a sway bar from Roush-Fenway Racing.
"No one went to (Roush's) toolbox and swiped his sway bar," Waltrip said Saturday during a news conference prior to Sunday's Goody's Cool Orange 500 at Martinsville, Va.
Waltrip added that "if anyone had any more questions to go ask, that person should ask Hendrick Motorsports driver Jeff Gordon," who has called the incident "Partgate," and says it "has been blown out of proportion."
"Our spokesperson on this subject is Jeff Gordon, so if y'all have anything to ask go ask Jeff," Waltrip said.
"I don't think I could've said it near as well as he did."
"I think we should investigate more," Gordon said sarcastically. "I think we should get the FBI involved."
When the race begins Sunday, Gordon will be on the pole.
