BOSTON, March 29 (UPI) -- Tim Thomas turned back 34 shots Saturday for his third shutout this season in the Boston Bruins' 4-0 victory over the Ottawa Senators.
With its third win in a row, Boston rose to 90 points in its battle against Philadelphia for the seventh spot in the Eastern Conference playoff chase.
Boston scored twice in both the second and third periods. The only goal Thomas needed was P.J. Axelsson's 13th of the season, a one-timer into the right corner of the net at 4:24 of the second.
David Krejci had a goal and two assists. Marco Sturm added a goal and an assist.
Shane Hnidy's second goal this season came shorthanded at 1:13 of the third.
Martin Gerber gave up four goals on 31 shots for the Senators, who have lost four of their last five games, but remained fifth in the East, one point ahead of the idle New York Rangers.
