Stanford leads Ochoa by one on LPGA Tour

SUPERSTITION MOUNTAIN, Ariz., March 28 (UPI) -- Angela Stanford clung to a one-shot lead over superstar Lorena Ochoa Friday after two rounds of the Safeway International at Superstition Mountain, Ariz.

Stanford, whose 62 Thursday was the lowest round of her career by two shots, added a 3-under 69 Friday. Ochoa, the top-ranked female player in the world, recorded a 67 to get to 132 -- a shot out of the top spot.

Jee Young Lee was alone in third at 134 and Annika Sorenstam, a three-time winner of this tournament, shot a 67 to share fourth place with Michele Redman at 136.

Stanford was in the first group off the 10th tee at the Superstition Mountain course Friday. She promptly birdied her first three holes.

"I think I was still asleep," Stanford said. "It was the same kind of thing as yesterday. When you see that name Ochoa on the leaderboard, you better pull it together."
