NHL: New Jersey 5, Philadelphia 4 (SO)

NEWARK, N.J., March 28 (UPI) -- Jamie Langenbrunner's goal in the third round of a shootout Friday lifted the New Jersey Devils past the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4.

New Jersey won the shootout 3-2, getting goals as well from Brian Gionta and Patrick Elias, while Philadelphia got shootout goals from Jeff Carter and Daniel Briere.

Regulation ended in a 4-4 tie and the overtime was scoreless.

New Jersey's Johnny Oduya scored twice in the first period. Langenbrunner scored in the second and Gionta in the third.

Elias had two assists and Martin Brodeur yielded four goals on 32 shots for the Devils, who rose to 91 points by ending a five-game winless streak (0-4-1).

Philadelphia got a goal and an assist from both Mike Knuble and Randy Jones. Vaclav Prospal and Jim Dowd also scored while Martin Biron stopped 29 of 33 shots for the Flyers, whose 88 points ties Boston for the eighth and final Eastern Conference playoff spot.
