NHL: Edmonton 5, Minnesota 3

EDMONTON, Alberta, March 25 (UPI) -- Andrew Cogliano scored twice Monday to lead Edmonton to a 5-3 victory over the Minnesota Wild.

Edmonton raced to a 3-0 lead in the first 5:02 on goals by Curtis Glencross, Cogliano and Dustin Penner. Kyle Brodziak got the eventual game-winner and Cogliano added the insurance goal -- his 18th this season -- in the second period.

With the win, the Oilers passed Nashville into ninth place in the Western Conference, but remain three points behind Colorado and Vancouver, who are tied for the final two playoff spots.

Dwayne Roloson made 31 saves for Edmonton, which has won four of its last five games and seven of nine.

Sean Hill, Todd Fedoruk and Nick Schultz scored for Minnesota, which stayed a point ahead of Calgary for first place in the Northwest Division.

Niklas Backstrom gave up three goals on only 10 shots before giving way to Josh Harding who made 21 saves for the Wild, losers of two in a row.
