COL BKB: Washington St. 61, Notre Dame 41

DENVER, March 22 (UPI) -- Derrick Low scored 18 points Saturday to lead Washington State to a 61-41 win over Notre Dame in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

The win put the Cougars in the Sweet 16 for the first time in school history.

Kyle Weaver had 15 points and nine rebounds for the Cougars (26-8), who move on to face either top-seeded North Carolina or Arkansas in an East Regional semifinal in Charlotte, N.C., next Thursday.

The Cougars beat Winthrop Thursday.

Kyle McAlarney scored 12 points for the Fighting Irish (25-8), who had more wins this season than in any season since 1973-74. Luke Harangody had 22 rebounds and 10 points for Notre Dame.
