NHL: N.Y. Islanders 3, New Jersey 1

NEWARK, N.J., March 21 (UPI) -- Kyle Okposo's first NHL goal turned out to be the game winner Friday when the New York Islanders skated past the New Jersey Devils 3-1.

Okposo's shot beat Martin Brodeur, broke a 1-1 tie at 17:25 of the third period, and put the Islanders in front for good.

Blake Comeau's seventh put the Islanders up 1-0 at 4:46 of the first, but Travis Zajac's 14th (power play) at 13:46 of the first created the 1-1 tie.

Trent Hunter's 11th went into an empty net with 41 seconds left in the third.

Wade Dubielewicz made 34 saves on 35 shots for the Islanders, who snapped a six-game losing streak while beating the Devils for the sixth time in seven games this season.

Brodeur yielded three goals on just 16 shots for the Devils, whose 91 points ties Pittsburgh for first place in the Atlantic Division.

The Devils have lost two in a row.
