NHL: N.Y. Rangers 5, Pittsburgh 2

NEW YORK, March 18 (UPI) -- Sean Avery scored two goals Tuesday, powering the New York Rangers to a 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Martin Straka had a goal and an assist, and Ryan Callahan and Fredrik Sjostrom also scored for New York, which is 11-2-3 in its last 16 games.

Henrik Lundqvist had 22 saves for the Rangers, who have 85 points but are still in sixth place in the Eastern Conference.

Jarkko Ruutu and Jordan Staal scored for the Penguins. Ty Conklin blocked 25 of 30 shots for Pittsburgh, which remains in second place in the Atlantic, a point behind idle New Jersey.
