Denis Watson wins AT&T Classic in playoff

VALENCIA, Calif., March 16 (UPI) -- Denis Watson won the AT&T Champions Classic in California Sunday with a birdie on the third hole of a playoff.

Watson defeated Loren Roberts and Brad Bryant after all three had finished regulation play at 7-under-par 209.

Bryant was eliminated on the second hole of the playoff and Watson sank a birdie putt from close range to win the title on the third extra hole, which Roberts double-bogeyed .

Watson shot a 7-under 65 in the final round to get in the playoff. Roberts eagled the last hole to finish with 70 and Bryant shot 72.

"I drove the ball well except for one bad tee shot," Watson said. "I gave myself a lot of chances."

Four straight Champions Tour events have ended in playoffs.

Jay Haas finished in fourth place at 210. John Cook, Bernard Langer, Scott Simpson and Jerry Pate were all at 211.
