Pettinger and Mats Naslund had two assists apiece while goaltender Robert Luongo allowed three goals on 37 Dallas shots.

The win may have helped the Canucks in their effort to capture the eighth and final Western Conference playoff spot.

Dallas got one goal each from Joel Lundqzist in the first, and Brad Richards (shot-handed in the second) and Mike Modano (power play in the second).

Goalies Johan Holmqvist and Marty Turco combined to give up four goals on 30 shots for the struggling Stars, who blew a 3-0 lead in the fifth loss in their last six games.
