NEW YORK, March 14 (UPI) -- Roy Hibbert led No. 9 Georgetown on a late surge Friday that advanced the Hoyas into the Big East Tournament finals with a 72-55 win over West Virginia.
Hibbert, who did not score a point in the quarterfinals against Villanova, made 12 of 17 shots from the field and scored 25 points. The Hoyas (27-4) will be going after their eighth tournament title since the Big East was formed in 1980.
Georgetown has played 14 games in the tournament as the No. 1 seed and has won them all. Jessie Sapp added 13 points and both DaJuan Summers and Jonathan Wallace had nine.
West Virginia (24-10) was led by Da'Sean Butler with 16.
Georgetown's 12-point halftime lead was cut to four with 12 minutes to go, but Georgetown then scored 16 points in a row to break open the contest.
