MONTREAL, March 13 (UPI) -- Martin Gerber made 28 saves Thursday in recording his second shutout of the season and carrying Ottawa to a 3-0 win over Montreal.
Jason Spezza scored twice in backing up what was the ninth shutout of Gerber's career.
The result brought about a three-way tie at the top of the Northeast Division among Ottawa, Montreal and Pittsburgh. There are only 10 games left in the regular season and Montreal will take on Ottawa twice more.
It was Ottawa's third straight win and its eighth in its last 10 meetings with the Canadiens. Montreal lost for the third time in nine games, but is still in good position to claim its first division title in 16 seasons.
Speeza scored at 8:21 of the first period on the power play, ending a streak of 11 straight penalty kills for Montreal.
