NHL: New Jersey 4, Minnesota 3 (SO)

ST. PAUL, Minn., March 13 (UPI) -- Jamie Langenbrunner scored the only goal in the shootout Thursday, giving New Jersey a 4-3 victory over Minnesota.

The Devils took the lead in the race for the Eastern Conference's No. 1 playoff seed -- one point in front of Ottawa, Pittsburgh and Montreal. New Jersey won for the fourth time in five games and will conclude a four-game road trip in Denver on Saturday.

New Jersey's regulation goals came from Dainius Zubrus, Brian Gionta and Vitaly Vishnevski. Marty Brodeur made 34 saves to get the win.

Langenbrunner put a double move on Niklas Backstrom to score in the third round of the shootout. Brodeur then stopped Brian Rolston on Minnesota's last chance.

New Jersey rallied from a two-goal deficit with a pair of goals in the second period.
