NHL: Toronto 3, Philadelphia 2

PHILADELPHIA, March 12 (UPI) -- Pavel Kubina's early third-period goal Wednesday lifted the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 3-2 win over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Kubina's ninth goal this season came on the power play 69 seconds into the third to snap a 2-2 tie. It was the second straight night he beat scored the game-winner against Philadelphia.

His goal with 56 seconds left in overtimeTuesday gave Toronto a 4-3 victory.

Wednesday, goals by Ian White and Alexei Ponikarovsky also helped Toronto erase a 2-0 first-period deficit.

Vesa Toskala made 18 saves after 20 Philadelphia shots for the Maple Leafs, who played the final two periods without captain Mats Sundin. He left after the first period with a muscle strain.

Philadelphia got goals from Mike Knuble and Jeff Carter in the first.

Goalie Martin Biron yielded three goals on 31 shots for the Flyers, who blew a chance to leapfrog idle Boston for seventh place in the Eastern Conference playoff chase.
