NHL: Toronto 8, Boston 2

BOSTON, March 6 (UPI) -- Bryan McCabe equaled a career best with four points Thursday to highlight an offensive outburst that carried the Toronto Maple Leafs past Boston 8-2.

McCabe had a goal and three assists and Nik Antropov scored twice. It was Toronto's fifth win in seven games, but the Maple Leafs remain six points behind Philadelphia for the eighth and final playoff berth in the Eastern Conference.

Vesa Toskala made 27 saves.

Toronto scored eight straight goals after giving up the first tall of the game. Boston has lost three in a row and its lead over Philadelphia for seventh place was reduced to a single point.

Alexei Ponikarovsky scored Toronto's go-ahead goal 1:17 into the second period. Toronto scored four times in that period, with both McCabe and Antropov delivering power-play goals.

The Maple Leafs converted four times on seven power-play chances. Toronto's Mats Sundin became the 46th player to take part in at least 1,300 NHL games.
