Soldier has last ball thrown by Favre

NEW YORK, March 5 (UPI) -- A U.S. Army officer possesses the last football ever thrown by retired Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre, a report said Wednesday.

New York Newsday reported that Lt. Col. Greg Gadson, a New York Giants fan, was given the football by Giants' defensive back Corey Webster at the site of Super Bowl XLII in Glendale, Ariz., where the Giants beat previously unbeaten New England 17-14.

Gadson was named the Giants' honorary captain for the Super Bowl after it was learned that he lost both legs in a roadside bomb attack in Iraq.

"For it to be Brett Favre's last ball and it being an interception in no way takes away from the career he has had," Gadson told the newspaper. "He is one of the greatest to ever play the position."

Favre, 38, a seven-time All-Pro and nine-time Pro Bowl selection, retired Tuesday ending a 17-year NFL career during which threw for 61,655 yards and 442 touchdowns.
