One Liverpool F.C. owner rejects Dubai bid

LIVERPOOL, England, March 4 (UPI) -- A co-owner of the Liverpool Football Club rejected an offer Tuesday from Dubai International Capital for the English Premier League soccer team.

Tom Hicks, a businessman based in Dallas, didn't wait for a midnight Tuesday deadline set by DIC, the Liverpool Echo reported.

The Dubai group offered $800 million for the team, which would have given Hicks and his co-owner George Gillett an estimated $50 million each in profit. DIC must now decide whether to pursue Gillett's half-share.

Hicks and Gillett bought the team in 2006. DIC made a bid at that time and has continued to be interested in owning Liverpool.

The club was founded in 1892 and went on to become the most successful in England with 18 league championships and five European Cup wins, among other titles.
