Head of McLaren race team may quit

LONDON, March 2 (UPI) -- Ron Dennis, head of the McLaren Mercedes auto racing team, may soon resign from the British Formula One group, a report said Sunday.

The Sunday Times of London reported that after helping make McLaren one of the world's top Formula One teams, Dennis is reconsidering his priorities and may soon depart.

News that Dennis and his wife of 22 years, Lisa, had split up surfaced this year and now the racing guru is said to be motivated to balance his professional and personal lives.

The Times said staff members have attempted to convince Dennis to stay with the McLaren group, but the 61-year-old is expected to announce his final decision this week.

With 18 races left in the racing season, McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton is one of the favorites in the 2008 Formula One world championship.
