COL BKB: Duke 87, N.C. State 86

RALEIGH, N.C., March 1 (UPI) -- Duke's Mike Krzyzewski got his 800th career victory Saturday when his sixth-ranked Blue Devils rallied to edge North Carolina State 87-86.

A 15-4 Wolfpack run left Duke in a 70-57 hole with 12:43 remaining in the game and the Blue Devils still trained 81-73 at the 5:03 mark. But a closing 13-6 spurt gave their long-time coach the milestone win.

Duke was led by 19 points apiece from Jon Scheyer and DeMarcus Nelson. Nelson sank two critical free throws with 61 seconds left.

Greg Paulus scored 15, while both Gerald Henderson and Kyle Singler added 12 points for the Blue Devils (25-3, 12-2 ACC), who have won three in a row.

Ben McCauley led NCSU with 19 points, three rebounds and three assists.

Javier Gonzalez scored 18 points and Tracy Smith 14 for the Wolfpack (15-14, 4-11), who have dropped seven in a row for the first time since the 2000-01 season.

Krzyzewski became the sixth men's Division I coach to reach 800 victories, joining Dean Smith, Bob Knight, Adolph Rupp, Jim Phelan and Eddie Sutton.

"A lot of you were here when I started, and at the time, I thought eight victories would have been nice," he told The (Raleigh) News & Observer.
