NHL: Minnesota 3, Florida 2

SUNRISE, Fla., Feb. 29 (UPI) -- A goal and an assist by Brent Burns Friday lifted the Minnesota Wild to a 3-2 win over Florida, the Panthers' eighth loss in 10 games.

Minnesota finished off a three-game trip through the Southeast Division with a 2-1 record, getting goals from Mikko Koivu and Stephane Veilleux along with 32 saves from Niklas Backstrom.

Tomas Vokoun surrendered three goals on 25 shots to take the loss.

Koivu took advantage of a three-on-one rush to score the game's first goal at 9:43 of the first.

After Florida tied the game, Minnesota took advantage of a botched line change to create a two-on-one chance. That led to a goal by Veilleux, who rifled a slap shot over Vokoun's glove.

Burns scored on the power-play with 9:28 left in the second to make it 3-1.

Minnesota played on Florida's home ice for the first time since October 2003. Ten of the Wild's last 13 games have been decided by one goal.
