Bengals acquire Detroit DT Shaun Rogers

CINCINNATI, Feb. 29 (UPI) -- The Cincinnati Bengals Friday acquired Detroit Lions defensive tackle Shaun Rogers in exchange for third- and fifth-round picks.

Rogers, a 6-foot-4-inch, 340-pounder, has played in seven NFL seasons. He was the Lions' second-round draft pick in 2001 out of Texas.

He was expecting to be dealt after hearing numerous media reports this off-season, and the move came after the highly-paid Rogers was due $4.25 million in 2008, $5.25 million in 2009 and $7 million in 2010.

"I truly believe a change of scenery would be the best thing for him because I truly believe he's capable of being one of the best of the best at the position," Rogers' agent, Kennard McGuire, told the Detroit Free Press this week.

Rogers has compiled 353 tackles and 29 sacks in his NFL career.

Last season, when he totaled 39 tackles and seven sacks in 16 games, the dominant run-stopper scored his first touchdown on a 66-yard interception return against Denver.
