NHL: Edmonton 4, Detroit 3 (SO)

EDMONTON, Alberta, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- Robert Nilsson's back-hander past Chris Osgood Tuesday gave the Edmonton Oilers a 4-3 shootout victory over the Detroit Red Wings.

Nilsson's game-winning shot came after Mathieu Garon stopped Detroit's Jiri Hudler in the third round of the shootout.

The Oilers set an NHL record with 13 shootout victories. The old mark was 12 set by Dallas in 2005-06.

Edmonton got the win despite letting a two-goal lead slip away in the third-period.

Tom Gilbert scored a goal and had two assists for the Oilers, and Geoff Sanderson and Fernando Pisani had a goal apiece. Garon finished with 40 saves.

Valtteri Filppula had a goal and an assist for Detroit, while Jonathan Ericsson and Pavel Datsyuk also scored. Osgood made 26 saves as Detroit lost for the ninth time in 10 games.
