COL BKB: Kent State 65, Saint Mary's 57

MOROGA, Calif., Feb. 24 (UPI) -- Junior guard Al Fisher racked up 28 points to give Kent State its first-ever season victory over a ranked team, No. 23 Saint Mary's-Calif., 65-57.

The 6-foot-8 inch forward Haminn Quaintance poured in 11 points and Mike Scott gave 10 points to guide the Kent State Golden Flashes to their sixth consecutive win.

The Golden Flashes ended the game on an 11-2 run and held Saint Mary's without a bucket in the games final six-plus minutes.

Forward Diamon Simpson had a double-double with 24 points and 15 boards for the Gaels, who suffered their first loss at home in 15 games, while Ian O'Leary threw down eight points and nine rebounds in the loss.

The Gaels were coming off a 100-64 rout over Pepperdine Monday where they set a school record with 17 buckets from 3-point land.

Kent State held St. Marys' star Patrick Mills to just five points and the Gaels center, Omar Samhan suffered a shoulder injury with six minutes left in the first half.

Kent State took the lead late in the second and Fisher showed his stuff with two minutes left in the game to give The Golden Flashes the win.
