Pennetta wins in Chile when foe quits

VINA DEL MAR, Chile, Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Flavia Pennetta won the Cachantun Cup in Chile Sunday when her opponent, Klara Zakopalova, quit because of an injury.

The Italian player had a 6-4, 5-4 lead over Zakopalova, who retired after falling and hurting her left ankle.

"It always feels better to play the last point and have the sensation of winning, but injuries happen," Pennetta said. "It was an incredible week for me."
