COL BKB: Notre Dame 71, Rutgers 68

PISCATAWAY, N.J., Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Tory Jackson's 17 points and 10 assists Sunday helped No. 18 Notre Dame slip past inspired Rutgers 71-68.

Rutgers faced a 42-34 halftime deficit but grabbed a 50-48 lead with 13:21 left after a layup by Byron Jones and Anthony Farmer's three-pointer.

A layup by Earl Pettis made Rutgers' lead 57-54 with 7:40 remaining, but an 11-0 spurt put Notre Dame in front for good at 65-57 at the 6:05 mark.

The closest Rutgers came later was 67-66 with 1:14 remaining.

Kyle McAlarney added 16 points and three assists for Notre Dame. Rob Kurz had 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds and Luke Harangody added 10 points for the Irish (19-5, 9-3 Big East), who have won six of their last seven games.

Farmer led Rutgers with 16 points, three rebounds and four assists. J.R. Inman had 14 points and six rebounds but was the only other player in double figures for the Scarlet Knights (10-17, 2-12), who suffered their sixth straight loss.
