ANTWERP, Belgium, Feb. 11 (UPI) -- Fifth-seeded Sybille Bammer was ousted in first-day action of the $600,000 Diamond Games tennis tournament in Belgium.
Bammer didn't manage to win a game in the first set and faltered again in the third in losing 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 to Yaroslava Shvedova.
The only other seeded player to have a match Monday was No. 9 Na Li, who posted a strong 6-1, 6-1 win over Elena Likhovtseva. Also in the first round, wild-card entrant Yanina Wickmayer defeated Shuai Peng 6-0, 6-4 and Karin Knapp beat Nathalie Dechy 7-6 (7-3), 6-4.
A strong Diamond Games field this year features World No. 1 Justine Henin and Anna Chakvetadze, who won in Paris last week, as the top two seeds. They open their tournament with second-round matches Wednesday.
The 2008 winner in Antwerp will win $95,500.
