NHL: Boston 3, Buffalo 2 (SO)

BUFFALO, N.Y., Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Phil Kessel scored the only goal of the shootout Friday, giving Boston a 3-2 victory over Buffalo.

Boston fell behind by two goals, but rallied to end a two-game losing streak. Zdeno Chara and Marco Strum scored in regulation for the Bruins and Alex Auld made 21 saves.

Kessel scored on Boston's second opportunity in the shootout, avoiding an attempt at a poke check and sliding the puck through the pads of Ryan Miller.

Buffalo lost for just the second time in seven games. Miller gave up two goals on 37 shots in regulation and missed out on a chance to record his 100th career victory.

Jaroslav Spacek scored for Buffalo with 3.4 seconds left in the first period and Thomas Vanek gave the Sabres a 2-0 lead with 38 seconds remaining in the second.

Boston then outshot Buffalo in the third period 17-1. Strum scored the tying goal with 3:50 to play.
