Arizona guard out after knee surgery

TUCSON, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Arizona Wildcats guard Nic Wise will miss four to six weeks to recover from arthroscopic surgery on damaged cartilage in his left knee.

The school said on its Web site the injury was believed to have occurred Jan. 31 in Arizona's 80-69 victory at the University of Southern California. Wise played sparingly in the following contest Feb. 2 at UCLA.

"It's a tough break for Nic," interim head coach Kevin O'Neill said. "He was playing very well for us (and) we hope to get him healthy as quickly as possible. Someone is going to have to step up and perform in his absence."

Wise is averaging 8.3 points, 2.2 rebounds and four assists in 22 games this season.

He leads the Pac-10 Conference with nearly two steals per game, is second in three-point field goal percentage (.491/27-of-55) and ninth in assists.

The unranked Wildcats are home Saturday vs. archrival Arizona State.
