NHL: Edmonton 5, Calgary 0

EDMONTON, Alberta, Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Mathieu Garon stopped all 24 shots he faced Monday in the Edmonton Oilers' 5-0 victory over the Calgary Flames.

Rookie Sam Gagner had a goal and an assist for the Oilers, who had lost six of their eight previous games.

Curtis Joseph, in his first game of the season, gave up five goals on 28 shots for Calgary.

Edmonton opened the scoring 6:24 into the game when Fernando Pisani put a rebound past Joseph. Dustin Penner scored with 35 seconds left in the first period to make it 2-0 and an Ales Hemsky goal in the second period made it 3-0.

Edmonton scored on two power-play goals in the final period, one by Steve Staios and the other by Gagner.
