STARKVILLE, Miss., Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Chris Lofton scored 20 points Saturday to lead the eighth-ranked Tennessee Volunteers to a 76-71 victory over the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
JaJuan Smith added 15 points for Tennessee (19-2, 6-1 SEC), which won for the 14th time in its last 15 games.
Barry Stewart scored 21 points for Mississippi State (14-7, 5-2) which has lost two in a row after a nine-game winning streak. Jamont Gordon add 17 points for the Bulldogs and Charles Rhodes added 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Tennessee led by as many as 17 points in the second half.
