VINA DEL MAR, Chile, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- No. 1 seed Fernando Gonzalez and third-seeded Juan Monaco breezed into the semifinals Friday at the Movistar Open in Vina del Mar, Chile.
In the first clay-court event on the ATP schedule this year, Gonzalez recorded a 7-5, 6-0 decision over Carlos Berlocq. Gonzalez won this event in 2002 and 2004 and was the runner-up in 2005.

He will meet Pablo Cuevas in the semifinals after Cuevas surprised seventh-seeded Jose Acasuso 6-3, 6-3.
Monaco advanced with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Juan Pablo Brzezicki. Santiago Ventura set up a semifinal match against Monaco by defeating Fabio Fognini 6-3, 6-3.
