NEW YORK, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Former major league infielder Chuck Knoblauch Friday said he wants to do his part to clean up the use of drugs like human growth hormone in baseball.
His comment followed 90 minutes of closed-door testimony to the staff of the U.S. House oversight committee on Capitol Hill.
"You know, I want baseball to be fair and healthy just like everybody else," he told the New York Times. "Maybe one day when (he) grows up he won't have to worry about drugs in sports," Knoblauch said while holding his young son Jake.
"He answered all the questions," Knoblauch's Houston-based lawyer Diana E. Marshall said. "We'll give y'all a statement later, but not today."
His name came up in an extensive report on performance enhancing drug use in the sport compiled by a panel led by former U.S. Senator George Mitchell.
Knoblauch also acknowledged the accuracy of the Mitchell report in which he was cited for taking injections.
Knoblauch has been issued a subpoena to testify on the Hill at a Feb. 13 hearing.
