LA JOLLA, Calif., Jan. 27 (UPI) -- World No. 1 Tiger Woods Sunday cruised to an eight-stroke victory at the Buick Invitational Golf Tournament at La Jolla, Calif.

In the final round, Woods shot only 1-under-par 71, but had built a big enough advantage in the previous 54 holes to withstand any challenges, which never materialized.

He held an eight-stroke advantage when the round started, raised it to 11 strokes before three straight bogeys from 13-15, and coasted home to register his 62nd career victory and fourth straight Buick Invitational win with a final total of 19-under 271.

His career victory total equaled the legendary Arnold Palmer.

"I wanted to go out there and make no bogeys and shoot something under par, so I got half of that right," Woods said in a television interview.

Mihara, Japan native Ryuji Imada (67) was the runner-up at 11-under 277 with Rory Sabbatini (67) and Stewart Cink (73) sharing third place at 9-under 279.
